His work is impeccable – he has a great ear for tuning and voicing. My pianos (a Steinway B and a Yamaha upright) always sound terrific when he is finished with them. This summer I took it a step further. I am fortunate to have a top of the line, nine foot long, full concert grand piano in my home. I did not buy it new, but it has been well maintained. However, I have had it for thirty some years and it was about thirty years old when I brought it home.
I talked to Kevin about doing more than just tuning. Kind of a makeover. He was willing and we did. We did totally new hammers. Some of the action was replaced. Pads and spacers. Much adjusting. And equalizing and regulating. And leveling. And some serious cleaning. I really don’t understand all of that. I just play he piano. A lot. I have been more than happy with my decision for the makeover. I am happy that Kevin was the guy to do it. The feel and touch are so much better. What had become loose and uneven is now firm and precise, but also responsive and sensitive. But I don’t fix or tune pianos. That’s why Kevin is the man!
